Life and Death

8th March 2011 mark the peaceful death of my Father, Gene at the age of 71.

He is never a very good man both to other people and to the family, but he is my Father. He taught me the skills that I needed to live and he gave me education. Without him, I will never be the person I am as of today and without him, I may not be here writing in the first place.

I remember bits and pieces of him, both in the good and the bad way. I remember him coming back to work every single day and ask me to read the books I learnt from school to him. I remember him helping me stitching and altering trousers for me. I remember him cooking dinner for me. I remember him teaching me how to eat a pawn with chopstick/folk and knife. He taught me table manner and elegance. I remember him bringing me to the coffee shop of Mandarin Hotel for ice-cream and I remember him giving me a vast amount of money to go to UK for studying. His other side...well its hard for me to reveal that, as I wish to have the best thing of my Dad being remembered.

To me, there is also a sense of emptiness when you notice him passing away in a sleep. He did not say bye but I am pleased that he suffer no pain in all these.

I think people come to this world with notice, they possess many in their life time but eventually, they go away with nothing but love and memory of others.

I wish to give my GREATEST THANKS to my Dad, he done such a great part in creating me. May you rest in peace.

End of the year

Again it comes to the end of a year...

2010 has been an exciting and rewarding year to me. A lot had happened and I am very thankful for all the blessings from Heaven, my friends and family.

Year of 2011 would be a new challenge to me and I am eagerly taking it up.

May all have a blessed and happy 2011.

Very Ralph Lauren Look

Most people consider Ralph Lauren as a causal wear fashion brand but when you look closer into this brand, it seems it is not as causal as we used to think.

On the flip side, the style it presents is a bit strange. You will see models dressed in shorts with an oxford shirt, a blazer, a bow tie and a pair of boaty shoes with no socks.

This style is called 'preppy'. The word itself original mean "northeastern private university-preparatory schools and denotes a person seen as characteristic of an attendee of these schools". It also refers to the kind of style this group of people dressed in.

I tried myself some of the outfits as I work for the brand, but I still cannot take the shorts and bow tie look. As it is the look of my school uniform when I was a kid.

Anyhow, I found alot of my co-workers dressed in full suit but with no socks and you will see this is a trendy thing in the company, which we are selling to our customers. I tried to follow as it's cooler in the summer, but the shoes cuts my heels and it hurt. So, I move to invisible socks. It's much better now.

Marco Pierre White

Eating is one of the most important part of my life. Quality food, tasty wine and a cigar to follow are what I enjoy most. That's why my favourite TV shows would be cooking and foodies programme.

Anthony Bourdain is one of my favourite, so as Gordon Ramsey. But now, the one who taught Gordon Ramsey is hosting Hell's Kitchen, the youngest chef to be awarded three Michelin stars in his days. A retired Chef and a now a Restaurant owner, who could be better?

Marco Pierre White (born 11 December 1961) is an British chef and restaurateur. He is recognised by patrons and peers alike for having provided a highly creative and innovative impetus into contemporary international cuisine, and is known as much for his quick temper as for his exceptional skills as a chef.

White has been dubbed the first celebrity chef "enfant terrible" of the UK restaurant scene and the Godfather of modern cooking. White was, at the time, the youngest chef ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars.

"Eating is one of the most important aspects of living. I like indulging. I like to eat one food at a time, to savor each individual thing."
- Marco Pierre White

Kipling's Cigar Bar - The last Frontier

Smoking ban is becoming a trend all over the world. Smoker are like dinosaurs, which sooner or later will be extincted because of the laws that forced us to.

I like to introduce one of the last frontiers we have, especially for those enjoy good whisky and cigars.

Kipling's Cigar Bar
G/F MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL
MAKATI AVENUE CORNER PASEO DE ROXAS AYALA CENTER
Makati Metro Manila 1200 Philippines

It is one of the very few places, where you could smoke indoors to escape the heat of Philippines and a good glass of single malt at the same time.

Fellow smokers, if you happen to be in Manila, please go there and help protect our last frontier.

Instant Karma

Instant karma’s gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you’re gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin’ to do
It’s up to you, yeah you
Instant karma’s gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face

John Lennon Instant Karma Lyrics

I never had believed in Karma, to me it's a myth, it's not the truth, but years passed by and you learnt more about this world, you will know there is God and he runs the world with Karma.

Everyone have their own Karma, what you do, what you see and what you hear is almost a resilience of what you have done. I am not selling that people have various lives as Buddhism, but I meant what you have now is what you did. As a farmer, what you plant is what you harvest.

Life is a lot of consequences linked together, all we not see is the bonds between which make us ordinary people.

Lonesome

It is very difficult to face loneliness, but it is even more difficult to be surrounded by a lot of people and still feel lonely.

The loneliness made people feel so desperate and the bitterness is even more so then any other thing in this world.

How to overcome it, I have no clue and the bitterness is nearly unbearable.

Life Better With Company?

Just watched the new movie 'Up in the Air'. I could see a lot of common between myself and Ryan Bingham.

I used to fly a a lot, sometimes, by myself and sometimes with companies. I have a lot of mileage cards for airlines and hotels and I own the same one Alex used to open the window of the classroom (the yellow Hilton card).

Is life better with company?

We are always surrounded but felt lonely and alone being surrounded. Why is it? Is it only a mind game? What is loneiness?

Below is the original quotes from Bingham:-

How much does your life weigh?
Imagine for a second that you're carrying a backpack.
I want you to feel the straps on your shoulders. Feel them?

I want you to pack it with all the stuff that you have in your life.
You start with the little things.
Things on shelves, in the drawers, the knickknacks, collectibles.
Feel the weight it all adds up.

Then you start adding larger stuff.
Clothes, tabletop appliances, lamps, linens, your TV.
The backpack should be getting pretty heavy now.

You go bigger.
Your couch, your bed, your kitchen table, stuff it all in there.
Your car, get it in there.
Your home, whether it's a studio apartment or a two-bedroom house.
I want you to stuff it all into that backpack.

Now try to walk. It's kinda hard, isn't it?
This is what we do to ourselves on a daily basis:
we weigh ourselves down til we can't even move
and make no mistake; moving is living

Now, I'm gonna set that backpack on fire.
What do you wanna take out of it?
Photos? Photos are for people who can't remember.
Drink some ginkgo and let the photos burn.

In fact let everything burn and imagine waking up tomorrow with nothing.
It's kinda exhilarating, isn't it?

...

This is how I start everyday of my life.
Now this is gonna be a little difficult, so stay with me.

You have a new backpack.
Now this time, I want you to fill it with people
Start with casual acquaintances, friends of friends, folks around the office.

And then you move into the people you trust with your most intimate secrets.
Your cousins, your aunts, your uncles. Your brothers, your sisters, your parents.
And finally your husband, your wife, your boyfriend, your girlfriend.

Get them into that backpack.
Don't worry I'm gonna ask you to light it on fire.
Feel the weight of that bag.
Make no mistake your relationships are the heaviest components in your life.

Feel the straps cutting into your shoulders.
All those negotiations and arguments and secrets, the compromises.
You need to carry all that weight.
Then you set that bag down.

Some animals were meant to carry each other to live symbiotically for a lifetime.
Star-crossed lovers, monogamous swans.
We are not those animals.

The slower we move, the faster we die.
We are not swans, We're sharks.

I don't know if you are swans or sharks, but I am neither both. I enjoy freedom but I also enjoy company. It is obviously that life is full of contradictions and hence we are human being.

A lot of time, we are tied up by relationships, family, friends, companies, qualifications, backgrounds, you name it...If we can just leave our 'back pack' can we be a happier person?

Christopher Johnson McCandless (February 12, 1968 – mid-August, 1992)

Have you ever think of leave your home, your comfort and live on land on your own?

Christopher Johnson McCandless (February 12, 1968 – mid-August, 1992), better know as Alexander Supertramp, was an American wanderer equip with minimal food and equipment conquered Arizona, California and South Dakota on his bear feet for two whole years before he sadly died in an empty bus out of hunger.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_McCandless

I just finished watch a movie about him, directed by Sean Pean. I admire the holiness of him, being able to have the gut to travel on his own, save except the wild, the danger and any unforeseen event. I admire his will towards loneliness, being able to stand on his own, live on his own, months without human contact, I admire his determination.

I admire this fellow, a guy with real guts!

Resurrection

After 15 months of overhaul do I become a better person? I don't really know, but there are a lot of transformation in myself. I rethink about my life, what is it for? Why I am here? Should I do think or not doing this? Is this what I wanted? What relationship suits me? What kind of work suits me? Who am I?

In these 15 months, I have danced with the devil in a pale moon light, shivering in the cold, against a lot of odds, pressed under extreme pressure and repeatedly asked myself why am I in this shit, yet, there is no change.

Lord answered my prayers in the dark days and when the time that He thought I have sufficient tests, I moved on. Thank God!

I have under went trainings to become a better man, but am I a better man after all these? This is a question that I would like to find an answer for myself in 2010. At present, the answer is obviously, NO, but I would like to make myself say YES by the end of 2010.

Looking forward to explore Asia and myself more in 2010.

Trespassing and Intruding

Trespass, legally means an unlawful intrusion that interferes with one's person or property.

Intrude, legally means to put or force in inappropriately, especially without invitation, fitness, or permission: intruded opinion into a factual report.

Over the years, I myself or many people have bypassed some one some how in their life, some comes with harmony, with joy with love but some like myself may come with anger, unhappiness, intrusion. Trespassing ones life, causing damages, unhappiness, disturbances, etc.

Now, the very first working day of 2010, I would say I am sorry! I would endeavour to come for other purpose rather then intruding or trespassing ones life anymore.

Be Jelly Fish

It's the beginning of the last month of 2009 and I have been with my current employer for nearly a year. Apart from getting a nice pay, there is not a single merit of my present job. I always asked myself; 'can I earn lesser and work elsewhere?'

The answer is still no at present and if not, I would announce here or on Linkedin that I am quitting. The reason is that I learn one thing here: BE JELLY FISH! Where as I carries no burden of a back bone and I could be very flexible and I can do anything, especially, I could be pressed by my client in any form, anyway they need me. My friend told me:' Your client is god, because they are inhuman'. I forgotten the good old days where I could stand firm with my back bone.

Maybe by closing of 2009, it's a time where I should seek somewhere else where I could have a back bone. Be Jelly Fish my friend!

Embrace Ageing

The Nobel prize in medicine 2009 was declared at a press conference today at noon. It will be given to three American researchers: Elizabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider and Jack Szovak.

The motivation is:

"for the discovery of how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase" (www.nobelprize.org)

Enzym helps our chromosomes to stay young and I believed that no one wants to grow old. Hopefully, there will be some cure for ageing and cancer in my life time.

When you grow old, every single part of your body decline, firstly, your pair of legs, as they have been supporting you for decades. Recently, my mom is wheel-chaired and fell off very often. It is sad to see her health declining on a daily basis. I started to feel that her days are counting.

My mom used to work 24 x 7, it's only 12 years since her retirement and she can hardly walk. Science discovered that regular sports may help to prolong the process of ageing, i.e. made you grow old slower. Yet, everyone is this world is live to let die.

There is simply so many things you cannot control, birth, ageing, sickness and death. What we can do is to look up the sky and pray to Thy Mighty and hope his saviour could help in some way.

I started to think that I needed to use my life in a more useful way, especially, when I look at the 24-inch gauge. So when I see Thy Worshipful Master in the Grand Lodge Above, I would be a good steward to him.

Ashtray for Stylish Smokers

I recently found this beautiful ashtray in a magazine.

When I see this beautiful sculpture, I started to think of owning it, sit back in a comfortable sofa and smokes a Churchill.

This art piece is built by Patrick Mavros, a white man who lives all his life in Africa.

He uses wild animals as his theme for creation and you may see a lot of wonderful pieces on the following website:-

Although, his art piece is quite dear, but it is so far the ashtray I long for apart from the ceramic ash tray from Hermes, which is equally attractive.

Human's Best Friends

Dogs are commonly known as human's best friends and I believed that dog lovers would have their specific breed, which they love most.

I am a strange person and I enjoy the difference I have between others and myself, that's why I love a different breed of dog.

I start to love this breed because it is huge and it happened to have one in a garage a few blocks away from my former home. Everyday, I walk home, I will see it playing with his master and his paws rest on his shoulder. I enjoy watching them playing and it is called Ah Fat. I started to love it and I started wonder, when can I have a dog like this?

This do is a NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF, a huge breed in dark colour and it's winkled skin make it very funny to look at. Here is a brief of what a Neapolitan Mastiff should look like in according to American Kennel Club (AKC):-

Large and powerful, Neapolitan Mastiffs are known for their massiveness – massive head, massive bone, and massive body. Despite their fierce appearance and serious demeanor, Mastini are generally peaceful, steady dogs. The breed’s trademark is the loose skin that covers their bodies, the abundant wrinkles and folds on the head and their rolling and lumbering gait. Their short coat can by gray (blue), black, mahogany and tawny. Some brindling and white markings are allowed.

To me, Ah Fat is a such a nice looking dog, it is about 51/2 feet long and weigh about 200 pounds, its muscular and it never bark.

However, since I moved, I do not have much chances walking by that road and visit Ah Fat, hope it is still strong and nice.

A Time for Myself

Since I joined my present employer, I am pretty much stressed out.

There are many many human resources issues in the team (I have about 90 nos. of direct report), and I have never been working with people of such poor attitude and mentality, save only a few whom have left the company. Making the situation more worse is that I was sent to a remote office of my client, so I need to travel quite a far distance everyday to get back and forth from home.

Anyway, I was paid to carry out such work and a job is very much important to my life, especially in the current market situation.

Being affected by such, I find that 'A time for myself' become more and more important. After a hard days work, facing so many people you don't want to see at all. I really need to sit back and find myself a corner, which I could immerse myself into, so that I could relief from the 'sufferings' I received during the day.
Just like in this picture, going back home, have a cigar and a good book is the best way to relax myself. Being torn apart from work, life and many obligations, 'A time for myself' is getting more and more important nowadays.
I am gonna find a bit of time for myself tonight!

I am No. 27

Harvey is a tank engine with a crane mounted on top of his boiler, which makes him look rather unusual.

Bio
The other engines teased Harvey at first, but when he was able to rescue Percy after an accident they realized that his difference was what made him special. Since then, he has proved very useful, using his crane arm for maintenance, building and clearing up. He mainly works at Brendam and the yard, but his favourite place to be is at the Water Works.

Persona
Harvey is a kind, friendly and hard-working crane engine. He enjoy helping out when his friends are in distress.

Livery
With perhaps the most distinctive appearance of any engine, Harvey is painted burgundy with yellow line-work and brown buffers. His name and the number "27" is written on both his sides in yellow.

Basis
Harvey is based on an industrial crane engine - Dubs Crane Engine No. 4101, built in 1901 by Dubs with Configuration: 0-4-0T.

Whatever your origins, nationality or religion might be, whatever qualifications you may or may not have, whatever your social or professional status might be, whether you are married or single, the French Foreign Legion offers you a chance to start a new life. For generations, the French Foreign Legion has been romanticised as a refuge for men seeking a second chance in life.

While no serious studies have been made of the motives for enlistment over the years, the majority in the Legion's ranks were either those transient souls in need of escape and a regular wage, or refugees from countries undergoing crises. In the past, the Legion had a reputation for attracting criminals on the run and would-be mercenaries.

To enlist as a French Foreign Legion you need:-

  • to be between the age of 17 and 40 years old (Parental or legal tutor authorization is required for minors),

  • to hold a valid official identity card,

  • to be physically fit for duty wherever he may be needed,

  • knowledge of the French language is not necessary because it will be acquired during the contract.

The above is only facts, but do you ever come across a thought in your mind to escape from your present life, leave all you have, all you know, all your memories washed away and become another person, a new name, a new identity, a new life?

If one day I am going to be called upon the Grand Lodge Above, am I regret about my life or shall I regret that I have just lived one single life, with one identity?

I am living a Legionnaire life in my own world, serving a war zone in my career. May the Architect Divine give me power and strength the live this single identity, which I believe no escape is needed.

Article 1

(I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION

The song from my favourite Band, The Rolling Stones summarised me as a person in a whole and life at my present stage:-

I can't get no satisfaction,
I can't get no satisfaction.
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, I can't get no.

When I'm drivin' in my car
and a man comes on the radio
and he's tellin' me more and more
useless information
supposed to misfire my imagination.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

I can't get no satisfaction,
I can't get no satisfaction.
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, I can't get no.

When I'm watchin' my TV
and a man comes on to tell me
how white my shirts can be.
Well he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
the same cigarettes as me.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

I can't get no satisfaction,
I can't get no girl reaction.
'Cause I try and I try and I try and I try.
I can't get no, I can't get no.

When I'm ridin' round the world
and I'm doin' this and I'm signing that
and I'm tryin' to make some girl who tells me baby
better come back later next week
'cause you see I'm on losing streak.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that's what I say.

I can't get no, I can't get no,
I can't get no satisfaction,
no satisfaction, no satisfaction, no satisfaction.
